Kirtan: the sound that heals

Kirtan is a spiritual practice that dates back more than 5,000 years and originated in India. It is part of Bhakti Yoga, or Devotional Yoga, and is a meditation based on the chanting of mantras, according to a ‘call and response’ formula, and practised in groups. Through chanting, Kirtan is able to calm the mind and awaken energies that bring us back to the centre of ourselves. The purpose of this music is to take us “out of the mind” and “into our heart”. These songs have the power to heal us deeply and help us reconnect with the divine within. The group experience allows us to synchronise on the same frequency and create one healing sound.
