The potential of Expanded States of Consciousness, in Transpersonal Psychotherapy, induced by hypnosis.
The Expanded States of Consciousness are a part of the Altered States of Consciousness. I address the contribution of Hypnosis to their induction. The following issues, in the Expanded State of Consciousness, can be used in Transpersonal Psychotherapy, and are treated succinctly: positive future, peak experiences, near-death experiences, paranormal phenomenology, experiences supporting the hypothesis of successive rebirths, and contacts with deceased ones.
Bio
Holds both a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Psychiatry. Retired Professor of Psychiatry and Mental Health and the Sciences of Consciousness in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Lisbon (FMUL). Ex-Director of post-graduation Courses in Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis and other States of consciousness at FMUL and the University Fernando Pessoa, Porto, Portugal. Director of LIMMIT – Laboratory for Mind-Matter Interaction with Therapeutic Intention, at the Faculty of Medicine, Lisbon, sponsored by Bial Foundation. Ex-Member of the Organizing Committee of the Symposia “Behind and Beyond the Brain” of the Bial Foundation, Porto, Portugal. Member of the Scientific Committee of the Bial Foundation. Professor at ISCSP, Lisbon, in the Executive Master in Applied Positive Psychology (EMAPP). His professional and research interests include psychology and physiology of altered states of consciousness, ethnomedicine, and human exceptional experiences
